Did You Know?
Osteoporosis is a disease that affects more than 25 million Americans.
One daily dose of OsteoSoy contains the isoflavone (phytoestrogens from soy) equivalent to 6 oz. of tofu - twice the average intake of Asian women with the lowest breast cancer rate, and 60 times the average American daily soy quota.
People who buy OsteoSoy® also buy:
Basic Mindell Plus, Looking Young, MSM Ultra, Rich Moisture Cream, Clarifying Facial Cleanser
Dr. Earl Mindell has formulated a dietary supplement designed to support the needs of today’s woman. Far from just another calcium supplement, OsteoSoy® provides 12 specific vitamins and minerals that work synergistically with its two bioavailable forms of calcium to promote healthy bones. OsteoSoy® also contains special standardized extracts of some of the world’s foremost traditional female herbs. These rare botanicals contain natural compounds (phytoestrogens) which can help to promote a woman’s optimum hormonal balance. This is important, since high estrogen levels are associated with certain cancers, and low estrogen levels with osteoporosis. Among all leading women’s supplements, only OsteoSoy®’s comprehensive system of vitamins, minerals and plant phytoestrogens is able to provide the nutritional support a woman needs to help adapt to the many changes her body will undergo through various stages in life!
With these ideals in mind, OsteoSoy® provides:
Isoflavones:
Japanese women have one-fifth the breast cancer rate of American women. It has been proposed that this may be a direct result of their high dietary intake of soy foods. The soybean contains powerful phytoestrogens called isoflavones. One daily dosage of OsteoSoy® contains the isoflavone equivalent of 6 oz. of tofu, which is twice the average intake of Asian women with the lowest breast cancer rate, and is 60 times the average American daily soy quota. With further testing already underway, preliminary research has shown that isoflavones may provide additional nutritional support related to women’s health.
The same powerful genistein and daidzein isoflavones found in the soybean also occur in the kudzu vine, another time-honored Chinese medicinal herb. OsteoSoy® provides the benefits of both of these natural protectors.
Minerals:
Calcium: Hydroxyapatite and calcium Citrimal® (a patented compound of calcium and three organic acids) are highly bioavailable forms of calcium. Studies indicate that microcrystalline hydroxyapatite is a superior form of calcium because it is the actual form in which it is incorporated into bone. Research also suggests that our bodies may use calcium Citrimal® (calcium citrate malate glycinate) more readily than other ordinary sources of calcium.
With over 18% of the calcium in our bones being replaced each year, it is important to get the recommended 1,000 mg of bioavailable calcium every day. Studies show that calcium improves bone healing and limits bone loss.
Magnesium: Of the 20 to 28 grams of magnesium in our bodies, about 59% is contained in the skeleton. It is essential in balancing calcium, in converting vitamin D to its active form, and in carrying calcium into and out of bone cells.
Trace minerals: Zinc, copper and manganese are essential in bone calcification and formation, and in the maintenance of connective tissue, especially cartilage. In a study at the University of California, San Diego, postmenopausal women who received calcium together with zinc, copper and manganese lost less bone density than women receiving only calcium, only trace minerals, or placebo.
Silicon: Silicon promotes the mineralization of bones and teeth and promotes synthesis of collagen, an important protein component of healthy bone and radiant skin. Levels of silicon are known to decrease with age.
Boron: Recent government research indicates that boron plays a role in balancing calcium, in the production of estrogen, and in converting vitamin D into its active form. An important study of postmenopausal women showed that boron supplementation helped prevent calcium loss and general bone demineralization.
Vitamin co-factors:
Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for proper bone formation and for mineral absorption. In elderly people, the capacity of the body to synthesize vitamin D is only half that of younger people.
Vitamin K: Vitamin K is necessary in order to hold calcium and other minerals in place in the bone. A recent study showed that adequate vitamin K levels may help to minimize calcium loss in osteoporosis patients.
B Vitamins: Vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid help reduce homocysteine levels, which are increased in postmenopausal women. Homocysteine is thought to interfere with normal collagen production. Elevated homocysteine levels have been associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease. Additionally, healthful diets with adequate folic acid may reduce a woman’s risk of having a child with a brain or spinal cord birth defect.
Standardized herbal extracts:
Studies indicate that as many as one half of premenopausal women suffer from PMS symptoms, ranging from breast tenderness and abdominal bloating to depression and severe anxiety. As women experience menopause, nearly 75% suffer from hot flashes, mood swings, depression or vaginal irritation serious enough to warrant a visit to the doctor. Hormonal imbalances are believed to be a primary causative factor in many of these symptoms.
Chaste berry: Leading scientists propose that chaste berry may be beneficial in addressing women’s nutritional concerns related to PMS and menopausal symptoms. It contains the phytoestrogens vitexicarpin and vitricin, which may be responsible for its effectiveness.
Dong quai: Dong quai root contains a phytoestrogen known as ligustilide, to which its effects are largely attributed. Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine have recognized dong quai for thousands of years as one of the most versatile women’s herbs to help address menstrual disorders, irregularities, infertility and PMS.
Licorice root: Licorice root has enjoyed a long history of use in Asia as well as in Europe and North America. Although licorice is most famous for the confection we make from it, the root also contains important phytoestrogens. One study indicates that it may be useful in addressing the problems associated with ovulation.
1. Antioxidant Soy food contains antioxidants, compounds which protect cells from damage caused by unstable oxygen molecules called "free radicals." Free radicals are believed to be responsible for initiating many forms of cancer as well as premature aging.
2. Breast Cancer A major study in Singapore revealed that women who eat soy foods are at lower risk of developing breast cancer than those who don't. Asian women, who typically eat a soy-based diet, have much lower levels of breast cancer than Western women. Test tube studies and those involving laboratory animals have shown that compounds in soy can inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells.
3. Cholesterol Lowering Scores of studies from around the world attest to soy's cholesterol-lowering properties, especially for people with high cholesterol levels.
4. Colon Cancer A recent US study showed that American soy eaters who make soybeans and tofu a regular part of their diet had significantly lower rates of colon cancer than those who didn't eat soy.
5. Hip Fractures Hip fractures owing to osteoporosis are a major problem among elderly women in the United States. Japanese women have half the rate of hip fractures as US women preliminary studies suggest that soy may help retain bone mass.
6. Hot Flashes Half of all menopausal women in the United States complain of hot flashes, a problem that is so rare in Japan that there's not even a word for it. Some researchers believe that special compounds in soy called phytoestrogens may help Japanese women stay cooler.
7. Immunity Studies show that soybean peptides can boost the immune systems, helping the body fight disease.
8. Kidney Disease Soy protein is easier on the kidneys, the main filtering organ of the body, than is animal protein and may slow down or prevent kidney damage in people with impaired kidney function.
9. Lung Cancer Several studies have linked soy consumption to lower rates of lung cancer.
10. Prostate Cancer A major study of Japanese men in Hawaii found a direct correlation between consumption of tofu and lower rates of prostate cancer. Studies of soy compounds have shown that they can inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells in laboratory cultures.
